Curator's statement

Who doesn’t like to spend the winter in a cozy environment? Denver is a cozy haven with ample opportunity to get in some chilly runs, visit some breweries, and snowboard a ton. Over the two months I spent in Denver, I learned to love the Colorado city from a unique perspective, especially since I love adventure-type trips. If you are looking for a wintery escape, then this guide is just for you!

Things to do

Arts & culture

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre is another fantastic outing that’s not too far from Denver itself – it’s a go-to for entertainment (such as outdoor concerts) during the warmer, summer months, and in the winter, it transforms to offer visitors experiences like drive-in movie nights. Stunning during any part of the year, it’s a beautiful venue to look at.

If it’s your style, Puff, Pass, Paint is a fun painting class that is also cannabis-friendly.

Tattered Cover Book Store is one of my favorite local bookstores in the city.

Neighborhood highlights

If you are interested in art, then RiNo Art District is the best neighborhood to see up-and-coming artists, including street art and local galleries. Many of the business owners have hired local artists to paint murals alongside their businesses, making the small community pop artistically. For the history buffs, Union Station is a must see!

Ski & snowboarding getaways

Of course, if you are visiting Denver during the winter, then snowboarding/skiing at a snow resort should be at the top of your list of activities to do. There are a variety of nearby ski towns that are easily accessible from Denver, including Vail, Breckenridge and Aspen. Each destination has its own unique flair, so I recommend picking one based on your travel style: Vail for luxury, Breckenridge for art and Aspen for a quintessential Coloradan experience. Copper and Keystone are two other great options that receive less attention, but are definitely worth visiting. Reach out to me to chat about which accommodations would best suit your style.

Day trips

For a day trip, the famed Hot Sulphur Hot Springs and/or Indian Hot Springs are well worth a visit.

About an hour outside of the city is Georgetown Lake, and during the winter months of January and February, you can go there to watch cars race on ice!

Eat & drink

Postino: A local favorite, Postino is a creatively designed space with new American fare and a focus on paninis. Go for their happy hour: they serve $5 glasses of wine and pitchers of beer until 5 pm every day.

Denver Biscuit Company: One of the best brunch spots in the city, Denver Biscuit Company is known, of course, for its biscuits. Go early – the line can get long.

JINYA Ramen Bar: Located in downtown Denver, Jinya is a cool Japanese restaurant known for its slow-cooked approach to ramen, made from broths simmered for 20 hours in-house.

Machete Tequila & Tacos: A solid option for outstanding and fresh tacos. Machete is also known for its to-go margaritas: you can pick up liters to go at any of their locations.

Happy Camper: With a menu made up of two sections – pizza and not pizza – Happy Camper is a cool, outdoorsy pizza place that’s well worth spending a bit of extra time to hang with friends over drinks.

Blue Moon Brewery: A new(ish) contender to the RiNo brewery scene, Blue Moon’s flagship brewery is located in a large taphouse that also serves traditional American fare.

Great Divide Brewery: For those looking for a more local vibe than Blue Moon, the Great Divide is one of my favorite microbreweries in Denver.

Terminal Bar: Grab martinis and soak up the chic ambiance at one of the coolest train stations in the US.

Recess: An excellent beer garden, Recess is an indoor/outdoor space with 20+ beers on tap and an emphasis on local.
